“The Lottery” by Shirley Jackson
- It was sunny in the beginning of the book and since the sun it warm and comforting, that could mean comedy.
- There was a dark box that was faded and splintered so that could mean tragedy since darkness it never good.
- The flowers were blossoming so that could mean comedy because flowers blossom in spring and spring is a beautiful season full of things growing.
- At the end someone was screaming it wasn’t fair in a contest because someone was about to die, so that could mean tragedy.
- In the book there was a hush going through the crowd so it was silent because one of the people on stage were about to die.
- One person had got hit on the head with a stone so that is violence because someone threw it at them and people kept throwing stones and that causes pain which can mean tragedy.
- Since the husband and wife were caring for each other that can mean romance because love is romance.
- In
the book winning the lottery is a bad and that is ironic because in real life it is the exact opposite.
